I spent some time this week, reading about a man named Levi Lusko.  He describes himself as a husband, father, author, pastor, and nerd.  In a tweet, he wrote, “It’s much better to start a day right than to manage a day gone wrong.  

You only get one chance to start!  Your day, a race, a new job, or anything you do.   You heard 100 times; you only get one chance to make a first impression.

There are high consequences to our beginnings. We form habits quickly; some say in as little as 3 weeks or less. Your life habits formed early in your marriage, your study habits as a freshman, your first impressions made in a new job or a new neighborhood have a huge impact on your life.

First impressions are decided in the first twenty seconds of face-to-face contact. A negative first impression takes 9 hours of positive interaction to correct.

Starting anything deserves our best efforts and our focused attention. You can’t steer a parked car. There has to be action. You must start for anything to happen! You can’t just try; you must do!

This is the hardest part for a lot of people. Fear of failure keeps them from getting off the couch and doing.

Back in my corporate days, someone taught me that successful people make a habit of doing the things that unsuccessful people don’t like to do.  They called it the common denominator of success.  It could be they don’t like to do, or they are afraid to do.

Take comfort in this. God shows up when you start.

I believe God’s blessing is on the other side of surrender. The quicker you cast off the lines and sail out of port, the sooner you will see his hand. When you make your plans, do your best preparation, get the right people on your side with you, and get started. God will show up if you have surrendered the whole deal to him. That does not guarantee success, but it does guarantee you will not be alone.

I don’t know who wrote the following poem, but it does fit today’s blog:

“On the plains of hesitation, bleach the bones of countless millions who, at the door to victory, sat down to wait, and waiting—died!”.
